Reflection

We started this week with a quick brief for our critique next week, I found this helpful as a reminder of what’s expected of us for our crit.

We then went on to look at landing pages, starting with domain names and our lecturer advised us to have one for several reasons. It allows for the creation of a professional online presence, which can help establish a personal brand and showcase one's skills and expertise. It also lends credibility and helps differentiate us from others in the field. With a domain name, we can create a portfolio, share our work, and connect with potential clients and employers.

We also looked at web hosting, when this was brought up I initially didn’t know what it was so I found this helpful and I have learnt that web hosting is a service that allows individuals and organisations to make their websites accessible on the internet. It involves renting space on a web server, which is a computer that stores and serves website files to internet users who request them. Web hosting providers typically offer a range of hosting plans with different features, such as storage space, bandwidth, and support, to suit the needs of different websites and users. My lecturer recommended dream host for us to use.

Then we got onto looking at how to start to create our landing page, talking about what to include, what order, imagery, text or diagrams etc. And what our final goal for our landing page would be - USP and mission statement. This was a helpful guide to know what’s expected from our landing page and I found I had a better idea of what to submit.

Landing page

For my landing page I initially had to consider what information I wanted to include and how I would use this to create a hierarchy to display the importance of each piece.

I then had to consider specific things to make it effective in achieving its intended goal. It's essential to have a clear and specific purpose for the landing page, a well-defined target audience, and an attention-grabbing headline that communicates the benefit of the product or service being promoted. The page's visuals should be high-quality and relevant, and the call-to-action should be prominently displayed and easy to understand.

To get a better understanding of this I looked at some other landing pages for inspiration. I made a mood board of some of the ones I liked and ones with aspects I would like to incorporate in my design.

On all of these landing pages the headline is clear, concise, and attention-grabbing. They convey the primary benefit or value proposition of the product or service being offered. With the sub-headline providing more detail about the product or service and support the headline.

The CTA is prominent, clear, and action-oriented. On most of these it is the only action on the screen. It tells the visitors what to do next, whether that's filling out a form, making a purchase, or downloading a resource.

The images used are high-quality and relevant to the product or service being offered. They help illustrate the benefits or features of the product or service.

They all have minimal navigation options to avoid distractions and keep visitors focused on the offer.

Interface Inventory

The purpose of an interface inventory is to help designers and developers better understand the scope and complexity of the system they are working on. By creating an inventory of all the interfaces, it becomes easier to see how they all fit together and how they may impact the user's experience.
