Reflection
This week we looked at interview skills which was a valuable learning experience as I have few interviews coming up. "What are your values" was a thought-provoking question that reminded me of the importance of aligning my personal principles with the company's culture. This alignment can foster a more satisfying and productive work environment.
Prior experience was emphasised as a critical component in demonstrating our qualifications. It reinforced the significance of showcasing relevant skills and accomplishments that directly correlate with the job, making a compelling case for why one is the right fit.
"Understanding the role" highlighted the need for in-depth research into the prospective position. This knowledge signifies a genuine interest in the company and a preparedness that can leave a positive impression on interviewers.
The discussion of enthusiasm, willingness to learn, and motivation underscored that candidates who exhibit genuine passion for the job, a hunger for new knowledge, and a strong drive to excel are more likely to stand out.
Lastly, the advice to always answer questions directly was a practical reminder. It's essential to provide clear, concise responses that directly address the interviewer's inquiries effectively. In summary, this lecture offered a comprehensive roadmap for excelling in interviews. It emphasised the importance of values, experience, role comprehension, enthusiasm, adaptability, and motivation. I feel better prepared to approach future job interviews with confidence and competence.
Research
As I will be approaching a design task I decided to have a look at The mediums article on How to ace the design task to get an interview.
The article provided valuable insights into tackling such challenges, especially during interviews. Design tasks serve as a crucial aspect of the interview process, offering a common ground for both the interviewer and the interviewee to evaluate skills and approach.
One aspect I appreciated about design tasks is their ability to gauge problem-solving methodologies and thinking processes. However, the pressure of performing within a limited time frame can make a seemingly simple task overwhelming. The article's guidance on understanding the interviewer's goals and focusing on problem-solving approaches rather than a perfect solution was enlightening.
The step-by-step breakdown of how to approach a design task, starting from defining the user and problem statement to conducting user research and creating wireframes, provided a structured framework to follow. Additionally, the emphasis on real-life examples and personal experiences to understand problems resonated well with my understanding of design processes.
The article's advice on creating frameworks and templates for presentation resonated with me as a strategy to manage time effectively during the task.
The article's comprehensive breakdown and guidance on tackling design tasks will undoubtedly assist me in approaching future design challenges with a clearer methodology and structured approach. The article helped reinforce the importance of understanding user needs, conducting research, and creating solutions that address real problems effectively.
Portfolio Development
During this week, I focused on digitising my portfolio using Figma. I utilised my initial sketches as a reference and incorporated both my sketches and images into the digital pages.
