Reflection
This week we looked at imaging and photography. We covered how powerful images can be in various settings. We looked at five key ways in which images are used and what they can do, including adding interest and attractiveness, illustrating products, communicating information and data, creating a brand personality, and enhancing the user experience. These five areas serve as a foundation for understanding the importance of images in various contexts.
We also looked at the different kinds of images such as, accessible images which is designed and optimized to be accessible to individuals with visual impairments or other disabilities. This means that the image is designed in a way that allows individuals who cannot see or interpret the image to still understand its content and meaning.
Decorative images which is an image that is used to enhance the visual design of a document or website, but does not convey any essential information or meaning. Examples of decorative images might include patterns, textures, or illustrations that are used to add interest or visual appeal to a page or document. Unlike, informative images, which provide necessary information or convey a message, decorative images do not provide any meaningful content or contribute to the understanding of the text. However, they can still be important for creating a visually appealing design that engages the reader and helps to make the content more attractive and accessible
Responsive images which is an image that can automatically adjust its size and resolution to fit different screen sizes and devices. This is important because different devices have different screen sizes and resolutions, and responsive images ensure that the images on a website or application look good and load quickly on all devices.
And optimized images which is an image that has been optimized or compressed to reduce its file size without significantly affecting its quality or resolution. Optimizing images is important because it can improve the performance and load times of websites and applications, particularly on devices with limited bandwidth or processing power
I found this lecture very helpful and will think more about using an image in the future in my designs, as they can be used to create a more engaging and effective user experience if used right.
Artist Research
I decided to look at Ansel Adams work this week as her black and white photography is striking.
Ansel Adams' photograph "Clearing Winter Storm" captures a stunning landscape of Yosemite National Park during a winter storm. The photograph is notable for its dramatic contrasts of light and dark and its striking composition.
One of the most striking features of the photograph is the way in which the light breaks through the clouds, illuminating the landscape below. The contrast between the bright sky and the dark mountains below creates a sense of drama and tension, as though the storm is in the process of passing but is not quite over yet.
The composition of the photograph is also notable, with the mountains and trees in the foreground leading the viewer's eye towards the distant peaks in the background. The use of leading lines and diagonals adds a sense of movement and energy to the image.
In terms of technical aspects, the photograph demonstrates Adams' mastery of the zone system, which he used to carefully control the exposure and tonality of the image. The use of black and white film also adds to the sense of drama and contrasts in the photograph.
Overall, "Clearing Winter Storm" is a stunning example of Adams' ability to capture the beauty and majesty of the natural world through photography. The photograph's combination of striking composition, dramatic contrasts, and technical mastery make it a true masterpiece of landscape photography
Wireframing
I took my paper wireframes into figma to get a feel of the layout digitally. I was stuck between using squares or circles for the album art, so i thought it would be best to see it digitally. I decided i would use circles for the home screen and squares for playing screen. I found this more effective because when the album art is placed in a circle some of it may get cut off so i decided to have the option for both.
