Reflection

We kicked off the week with a brief introduction and a discussion of our goals for the year. Our session began with a quick activity where we listed the desired attributes we hope to possess in our future job roles. These attributes were subsequently categorised, revealing that for the majority of individuals, the most crucial factor appeared to be the composition and dynamics of the team we will work with.

Following that, we delved into the essential components required for job applications, including crafting a CV, a Cover Letter, and a portfolio. Throughout the day, our attention was increasingly drawn to the intricacies involved in crafting an effective CV. We embarked on a comprehensive exploration of the do's and don'ts of CV writing and design, delving deep into the art of curating a document that not only represents our skills and experiences but also grabs the attention of potential employers in a fiercely competitive job market. Our discussions and insights revolved around various aspects, from the structure and organisation of a CV to the choice of language and formatting. We learned how to highlight our strengths, achievements, and unique selling points while avoiding common pitfalls that can diminish the impact of our applications. This foundational knowledge has equipped us with a valuable toolkit that extends beyond our current academic endeavours. It will undoubtedly prove to be an indispensable resource as we progress in our academic pursuits and venture into the professional world, empowering us to present ourselves effectively and make a lasting impression in the job market. It's not just about creating a document; it's about creating a compelling narrative of our capabilities and potential, and we now have the insights and skills to do just that.

Writing and Designing a CV

My approach began with writing the CV content first, ensuring its quality and completeness. Once the content was in place, I utilised CV360 for evaluation and refinement, which led to a 98% score after implementing some adjustments. Subsequently, I took the well-structured content to InDesign for the design phase.

Following my lecturer's guidance emphasising formality in the document, I opted for a very minimal design approach. I made the deliberate choice to stick to a black and white colour scheme, employing a basic two-column layout for simplicity and clarity in the overall design.
