To kickstart the design process for my prototype, I opted for the simplicity and immediacy of pencil and paper. I find this method to be the most effective in swiftly capturing my ideas. With a clear concept in mind, I began sketching out the layout, focusing on creating a captivating hero page to grab the audience's attention. Once I had established the layout for one slide, complete with text and illustration, I replicated this structure across the subsequent slides to maintain consistency and cohesiveness throughout the prototype.
After sketching out a few slides, I transitioned to Figma to further develop my prototype. While working in the digital environment, I encountered some challenges—whether due to a lack of planning or prematurely jumping into the digital phase, as I tend to do often. Specifically, I found it difficult to create the captivating hero page I envisioned. Additionally, I struggled with conceptualising the transition to the next page, which hindered my progress. Despite these setbacks, through numerous iterations and experimenting with different colours, I eventually arrived at a design that satisfied me.

Transitioning to the subsequent slides, I found the process to be smoother compared to the hero page. However, I encountered difficulties with accessibility on the slide containing the date. The background comprised a mix of light and dark elements, posing challenges in achieving optimal contrast. Despite experimenting with various approaches—such as using lighter and darker colours and adding backgrounds—I couldn't achieve the desired outcome. Recognising the need for a fresh perspective, I decided to table this issue for the time being and revisit it later.
At this point of the project, I encountered a significant challenge as I struggled to progress further. Feeling stuck and unsure of the next steps, I hit a creative block. In an attempt to overcome this hurdle, I revisited the sketches in my notebook and made another attempt at refining the date page. However, despite my efforts, I found myself at a standstill once again. Recognizing the need to maintain momentum, I decided to shift my focus to designing the subsequent slides, which involved incorporating quotes and visualizations, necessitating a different layout compared to the previous slides.
As I translated these ideas into Figma, I experienced a shift in my project's direction. The slides I was working on placed a heavy emphasis on typography, and I found myself drawn to the aesthetic achieved with the chosen typeface. Inspired by this realisation, I made the decision to pivot my design approach.
