The colours tied to the Apollo program embody a blend of technological prowess and cosmic fascination. Metallic shades like silver and gray symbolise the program's engineering feats, while vibrant reds or blues inject energy and anticipation. Mission images exhibit Earth's rich hues contrasting with the moon's barren landscape, emphasising our planet's allure and the endless expanse of space. Inspired by these visuals, I explored creating potential colour palettes by extracting colours directly from images. Surprisingly, detailed lunar photos unveiled deep blues and blush pinks, unconventional choices for space imagery. However, I believe incorporating these hues into my website's palette could set it apart, adding a unique touch that distinguishes it from others.
After testing out the colour palette alongside some typesetting and rough illustrations, I realised it wasn't achieving the desired effect.
Seeking to enhance the vibrancy, I experimented with brightening up some of the pinks and incorporating vibrant oranges. However, despite these adjustments, the desired outcome remained elusive.
As a result, I turned to new palettes using coolers.com. Eventually, I opted for a complete overhaul, embracing bright greens and teal with a pop of coral, which altogether conveyed the vibrant and lively vibe I envisioned for the project.
Each colour was chosen for its specific attributes and how it could enhance the storytelling and engagement within the immersive prototype. The mint green (#3DD29C) and teal blue (#007084) were selected to evoke a sense of tranquility and serenity, reminiscent of the vastness of space and the calmness of lunar landscapes. These colours would serve as the primary background hues, providing a visually soothing backdrop for the narrative to unfold.
To inject a pop of energy and vibrancy into the design, I incorporated the coral (#FF8464) and lime green (#CCDE00) accents. These colours symbolise vitality and dynamism, representing the excitement and exploration associated with space travel. The coral adds a bold and striking contrast against the cooler tones, while the lime green infuses a sense of freshness and optimism.
In addition, the pale yellow (#FFFFDA) serves as a subtle highlight, illuminating key elements and guiding the user's attention throughout the experience. Its soft and warm tone adds depth and dimension to the overall visual composition, enhancing readability and visual hierarchy.
Paired with a flat vector illustration style, these colours are expected to have a significant impact on the immersive prototype. The clean lines and minimalist aesthetics of the illustrations will harmonize seamlessly with the chosen palette, creating a cohesive and visually engaging experience for users. Furthermore, the diverse range of colours will help evoke different emotions and moods, enhancing the storytelling and bringing the narrative to life in a captivating and memorable way.
